We spend a third of our life in bed - yet often neglect this vital room.
The choice of fabrics really sets the tone for a bedroom. Different sets and styles can change the whole mood and atmosphere of the room and can match the changing seasons. They don’t have to slavishly match other fabrics. Layering the bed with folded throws and scatter cushions creates a cosy welcoming environment when not in use. Good quality sheets in exciting colours are well worth the outlay – they give a whole new meaning to luxury and seduction. Choosing the right kind of furniture can give style to a bedroom but take care that chairs are not just used as a place to dump clothes, but add style and elegance to the room. The secret is minimalism - there should be a feeling of space in the room. If your bedroom is small then it is even more important to keep it clear of clutter. Do all your clothes have to be stored in the bedroom? Clothes that are worn less frequently can be stored elsewhere. Is a bedside cabinet needed or will a shelf do? Must a computer workstation be kept in the bedroom? Good lighting and flooring is a vital part of the bedroom scene. Soft, low side lighting can set exactly the right ambiance for those romantic moments - but a good reading bedside light is just as important.
