Deborah Campbell finds the perfect finishing touches.
This spring there is an energetic vibe surrounding accessories; it appears that no outfit is complete without them. On my search to accessorise I have come across some sure winners.

French Connection Sunglasses are a must and this season I have found a classic: the Wayfarer oozes style, this iconic design first manufactured by Ray-Ban in1952 really hits the spot. For the first time in history Ray-Ban have reproduced the original Wayfarer model to spec; complete with oversize metal hinges and mineral glass lenses. Colours range from black, white and tortoiseshell to neo brights like red and pink. The shape inspired Luella Bartley and Lanvin in their spring/ summer 07 collections, they have been adopted by Chloe Sevigny and Kate Moss, and you don’t have to look like Miss Moss to look cool - everyone and anyone looks uber cool in Wayfarers.

primarkCostume Jewellery has never been so popular. It’s cheap, chic, and kind to your wallet. Most pieces that I came across do not look cheap and I have had plenty of admiring comments while adorned in a faux gold leaf embellished bracelet costing £15. Inspiration from nature continues to influence and form trends which transform into statement pieces. Birds seem to be the order of the day this spring. Metal kitsch style pendant birds are on sale by Freedom for Topshop, as are birds inside cages that hang as pendants from long chains. Plastic swallows on chains can be found at Tatty Devine. Look to Urban Outfitters for dragonfly and butterfly pendants. Plastic and Perspex are staple materials picked up by many jewellery designers offering a retro mix of Sixties and Eighties. Look to Arrogant Cat for plastic fantastic chunky necklaces in geometric shapes that can decorate tee-shirt dresses and smock tops.

For more up-market jewellery, Mathew Williamson has a stunning humming bird and hand charm on a gold chain, and Kenneth Jay Lane has a beautiful butterfly pendant in peach acrylic.(see Net-A-Porter.com)

tOP sHOP (Custom).jpgIn a season where smocks and oversized dresses dominate, a belt can be a handy tool to define the waistline for those of you keen not to lose your shape in this sack-like trend. With waisted trousers and jeans making a return, belts are a classic addition. Aeroplane and rucksack buckles are favoured fastenings for canvas tape belts. Dog clips in brass metal join wide leather sashes which can be worn almost basque-like over smock tops or dresses giving waist definition. Or go all out and invest in a basque belt to really make a statement, à la Kate Moss!

There is only one hat style for me this season - I found it in French Connection. It’s a classic baseball cap recreated in raffia crochet with a bow trim to one side and a slightly accentuated visor. Available in navy (my choice) and cream. I love it! So I am off to find the sun with my tortoiseshell Wayfarers and navy cap.
