The Mayor of Sutton, Councillor Myfanwy Wallace, has urged local businesses to come forward to support her nominated charity, Parkinson’s Outreach in Sutton.
She is offering the venue of Whitehall, in Cheam, as a focus for a corporate charity-raising event at which a sponsoring business could entertain 50 to 60 existing and prospective clients in historic surroundings and with the added entertainment of live wind and string music. The Mayor has promised to make her personal stock of champagne available for a Champagne Reception; and as a bonus for guests, the Friends of Whitehall would be on hand to give guided tours. Time & Leisure has offered to support the charity and the sponsor by giving full pre- and post- event publicity.

‘Sutton needs a resident Parkinson’s nurse – someone local Parkinson’s sufferers can contact immediately if they have any problems, including identifying the risks associated with certain prescribed drugs,’ the Mayor said. ‘Neighbouring boroughs have a dedicated Parkinson’s nurse; I believe it’s time Sutton had one too.’

Supporting the Mayor in her role as First Citizen is Mayoress June Reid, who is well known in the community as head of Sutton’s former Primary Diagnostics Unit and who is herself, a Parkinson’s sufferer.

Businesses wishing to find out more about supporting the Mayor’s charity should contact the Mayor’s secretary on 020 8770 5402.

The Mayor issued her plea at Sutton Chamber’s VIP Breakfast at the Holiday Inn, on 6 February. The event was sponsored by Supply London and guest speaker Ruth Brothwell outlined how small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) can realistically and successfully bid for contracts associated with the largest of projects, including the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Ruth estimates that there are around 50,000 opportunities in the supply chain for SMEs and emphasised the importance of registering online on the Olympics website. Businesses wishing to find out more should visit: www.london2012.com then go to the business section where they should access a new portal called ‘compete for…’
