Lack of public toilets in Twickenham
Modified By sara@timeandleisure.co.uk on 12/11/2007 04:17:16)

Dear Editor

Can we do something about the lack of public toilets at the Riverside in Twickenham? The old toilets have been closed for years and the river bank is becoming seriously polluted as those caught short are doing their business on the river bank, in the same place where, a few hours later families are enjoying a picnic. Surely with the buildings standing unused it would be possible to get the council to reopen them and make them a shining example of what public conveniences could be. There is the scope for being very eco, using green roofs for insulation and grey water for flushing and with the CCTV and alarm system available linked directly to the police station they could also be super safe. Think of the amount of OAPs, pregnant mums or mums with babies, diabetes sufferers or anyone just needing to go who need a facility available. McDonalds is not a viable alternative despite the council’s suggestion plus it isn’t wheelchair accessible. I am starting a campaign to get them reopened and would invite your readers to join me.
Yours , Trevor Baylis OBE email trevor@trevorbaylis.com
