Tolworth Girls Big Conversation
Modified By sara@timeandleisure.co.uk on 12/11/2007 04:21:04)

Dear Sara

I'm contacting you because I know that you'll be interested to see what our school has been doing to commemorate the Bicentennial of the Abolition of Slave Trade Act. Our artwork was used to publicize this years RBK Events, and there is an exhibition of this Batik Mask making doing the rounds in our local Public Libraries.

But..what I'm really proud of and wanted to show you is what we've been doing for 'The Big Conversation' Competition. Our Entry is a documentary film (12 minutes) capturing many of the Black History Project activities/debates in and around the school - canvassing views across the year groups including the 6th Formers, teachers and support staff.

Of course it would be great if we won the competition but either way I'd like the film to have a wider audience - it's going to be a great resource for future debate too as it deals with the issues of modern slavery - very topical with the Gap supply chain in the news. Follow this link to see the film.. http://artificia2.webfactional.com/tolworth3
Then subject showcase link to the big conversation (Background details about the competition can be seen on the DfES website http://www.understandingslavery.com/aboutus/pressreleases/thebigconversation/)

Hope this is of some interest. Keep up with the glossy Time & Leisure - still a pleasure to read hard copy but I also see the appeal of the web presence you are planning to
develop.

Kind regards
Irene Marillat
