Sent on behalf of Councillor David Williams All Saints Future
The future of the All Saints Day Centre is not about cash but choice and how the Council responds to the Government’s challenge to provide 21st century solutions to age old problems. Importantly, the Council remains committed to providing day care services to those meeting our eligibility criteria and will establish what they and their carers really want and need. In January 2008, a detailed consultation will commence with user groups, carers and interested parties at Merton’s day centres for older people (Eastway) and physically disabled (All Saints). It will last two months and come back to the local Cabinet in April after the budget for 2008/09 has been set. There are budgetary impacts in the options and the Council has a duty to ensure it delivers best value services to both users and Council taxpayers. Incidentally, the Council has not made any decision of Members Allowances but the General Purposes Committee has agreed to recommend that the levels suggested by an Independent Panel were too high and that the current scheme (available on the Council’s website), which is one of the lowest in London, should be reviewed to balance the identified needs with available resources. Cllr David T Williams JP Leader of the Council
