Call goes out for voices

A call has gone out to individuals, choirs and groups based in Sutton and Merton inviting them to take part in a concert in aid of St Raphael’s Hospice, North Cheam, as part of the world’s largest singing event.
A concert is being organised at St Bede’s Conference Centre, London Road, North Cheam, for Voices for Hospices Day, 6th October. On that day, at 7.30pm local times, singers, rappers, poets, actors and comedians in over 60 countries will take to a stage to raise awareness of - and funds for - the hospice movement.
The range of acts is likely to be extremely varied, as any style of music is acceptable. The only proviso is that the act involves the use of the human voice.
The concert is being organised by Christopher Wood, editor of Sutton and Epsom Time & Leisure. He is inviting performers to book a 15-minute slot in the programme. That individual or group will then be asked to sell tickets to their own supporters, with box office takings going to St Raphael’s, after essential expenses have been met. Chris is himself a composer and will be contributing Carter in Crisis, an ‘opera in miniature’ written for a solo performer - local baritone Patrick Cockshutt.
Anyone interested in participating is invited to email Chris at chris@timeandleisure.co.uk. As St Bede’s adjoins the hospice, excessively loud acts are requested not to apply. Choice of acts will depend on not only musical skills but also the ability to support the event through ticket sales. A compère and volunteers to help front of house and backstage are also needed.
