Fashion models trade the glamorous catwalk for a leafier setting, to help Trees for Cities launch their Tree-Athlon campaign. Katherine Poulton and an array of stunning models are putting their green foot forward in aid of Trees for Cities this week, and prove their eco-friendly credentials by backing the charity’s campaign. They join top model Lily Cole, who ran the 5km race as a Tree-Athlete in 2006. The Tree-Athlon is a three-part event for fit tree lovers of all ages: it includes a 5km run, a ‘tree wish’ and a fashion swap. Participants can bring along a clean item of clothing they no longer want, and take away something they do – with all left-over clothes being donated to TRAID. The aim is to encourage a sustainable lifestyle, by recycling clothes and reducing waste.
Katherine Poulton, ICM model and former Tree-Athlete, says of her commitment to environmental causes: ‘The Tree-Athlon with a fashion swap is both sustainable for the planet and eco-friendly. We all want to see cities go greener and it’s a fun way for everyone to get fit whilst doing their bit for the environment – I ran it last year and had a great time!’
This year Channel 4’s City Gardener Matt James and stand-up comedienne, Shazia Mirza will be running once again. Funds raised will go towards the planting and care of thousands of trees across the UK and internationally.
The Tree-Athlon is taking place in London’s Battersea Park on Saturday 15th September. Register online at www.tree-athlon.org.
