gardening is thriving.A groundbreaking initiative between Thrive, the national charity which promotes gardening for people with a disability, and Battersea Park to renovate and maintain the park’s Old English Garden was opened by sponsors shopping channel QVC. The initiative with Battersea Park is the first ever arrangement under which disabled gardeners will renovate and then maintain a public area of a London park and will be a showcase to demonstrate the skills and abilities of gardeners from Thrive’s Battersea Garden Project. Thrive’s most experienced and skilled gardeners will be working alongside gardeners who are developing work skills. Tony Leach, Director of the London Parks and Greenspaces Forum, an organisation which promotes accessible quality green spaces in London, said: ‘I would like to see other parks and green spaces looking at what Battersea and Thrive are doing together and I hope very much that it will be the first of many similar initiatives.’
