Both the new grandstand and hotel are taking shape. The frame of the new Grandstand is now in place, along with most of the steppings and the first lift shaft.

Nick Blofeld, who was appointed the Racecourse’s Managing Director in February, commented: “With the frame in place it is now easy to visualise the new Grandstand’s shape and scope for both racing and non racing events. Grandstand Enclosure customers at this year’s Derby Festival will have access to the steppings and Parade Ring, along with the Derby Village bars and food outlets.”

The new Express by Holiday Inn Hotel will open in August this year and the Grandstand in April 2009. The Grandstand will have a capacity of 11,000. A 960m² hall with catering outlets will be suitable for conferences, exhibitions and other events. The first floor will also cater for conferences, banqueting and racing. The second floor will have private facilities and a Super Box for just over 100 people, suitable for intimate parties and weddings as well as sponsors use on race days.
The 120-bedroom Express by Holiday Inn Epsom will fill the void for business and leisure accommodation in the area. For more information visit www.hiexpressepsom.co.uk or call 0844 8010 323.
The Derby Festival is taking place on 6 and 7 June. Visit www.epsomdowns.co.uk for more information.
