Lulu is an icon of modern womanhood: indefatigable, loved, talented and beautiful!
Four decades in the music business might be enough to vanquish some, but not our Lulu. She is coming to Kingston for an exclusive Bentalls event Thursday 4 October. Lulu kindly answers our questions.
T&L: Good morning Lulu. We are so excited that you are coming to Bentalls and cannot wait to welcome you to Kingston! Can you give us a tiny sneak preview of what you will be doing?
Lulu: I can’t wait to meet all the ladies of Kingston at the fabulous Bentalls store. I will be talking about my award-winning, anti-ageing skincare line, Time Bomb, and my best selling hair care collection, Operation Glam, along with the indispensable member of my glam-squad team, the fabulous hairdresser, Kevin Moss.
T&L: We hear that when you launched Time Bomb on QVC, their phone lines almost melted with the pressure of all those orders. What caught that audience’s attention?
Lulu: In a nutshell – great products made by a great team! I am so lucky with the people I work with. My partner is Gail Federici who was the CEO of John Frieda and responsible for taking that company to a global powerhouse. My chemist Dr Joe Cincotta is quite simply a genius – he was responsible for making Gail’s vision a reality at John Frieda and now I am thrilled that he is working with me at Time Bomb. I feel that the proof is in the pudding... I have used these products faithfully for many years, and I am certainly happy with the results and feel confident other women will be too! I try and test every single piece until I am 100% confident that it works and gives noticeable results. If women are investing their hard earned cash with my line, I want them to feel it really works!
T&L: An icon of modern womanhood – is that a good description? You look great, you are full of beans and dynamism. Any secrets for us beauty-savvy ladies of Kingston. We’ve time to spend on ourselves, without being slavishly devoted to ourselves?
Lulu: Gosh I would never think of myself like that! I do like to keep busy and have a healthy interest in everything around me which I think definitely keeps you youthful! But if I had to choose one beauty tip it would be cleanse, cleanse, cleanse! And I love, love, love my Time Bomb Take Off Time Cleanser. As we age it is so important to take off those dead skin cells and encourage our skin to replenish as it just doesn’t have that youthful glow any more. Take Off Time contains a unique blend of round cleansing beads and sharp magnesium oxide crystals to very gently slough off the dead skin cells leaving skin glowing, dewy and radiantly youthful! Many women think any old cleanser will do but splurge on a moisturiser – I am here to tell you no, no, no! You must invest in cleansing your skin too!
T&L: My granny was Scottish and had an impeccable complexion also. Is there something in the genes?
Lulu: Well as I am in England I have to be gracious but – yes, Scottish people DO have fabulous skin! Don’t tell anyone I said that!
T&L: Some might say being married to a hairdresser gave you a head start (excuse the awful pun not intended) when it comes to hair advice and care? Or had you always looked after yourself?
Lulu: They say necessity is the mother of invention and as a young girl I did not have good skin and was not confident about how I looked. As I was lucky enough to work with some of the top people in the field of beauty and well being, I listened and I learned and I tried and I tested until I knew what really worked... in my business, how you look is part of your stock in trade so I viewed it that way and worked at it. I don’t want to look like an old bag on stage beside Kylie!! I was very fortunate too in that I had access to my genius chemist, Joe, who was able to put product blends together to my specifications until I had my own little bespoke range... which became Time Bomb!
Lulu will be at Bentalls on from 12noon to 2pm on Thursday 4 October demonstrating Time Bomb and Operation Glam
