Those in design circles often remark how sad it is the one room we spend so much of our lives in, either nurturing our own need for private space or sleeping next to loved ones, is the last room to receive any loving interior attention.
Inspired by this romantic February edition of T&L we have the perfect bedroom design solution - whether you share it or not, a honeymoon suite-inspired bedroom is what we all deserve to sleep in.
If a simple look is what makes you feel like a newly-wed - cool, calm and utterly pampered - indulge yourself with understated neutrals, crisp cottons or linens and subtle flashes of opulence.
Buy quality white linen bed sheets, add white cushions in fabrics you can’t help but touch and linger over as you walk past (feathers, wool, silks and satins), throw on a cashmere blanket and perhaps one contrasting colour or patterned cushion and you’ll start to create an individual and sumptuously calm space.
A quality oversized bed is essential for a honeymoon-inspired room and the resurgence of classical ornate styles will add some classic glamour to the space. Try to get the biggest bed you can that doesn’t swamp the room but remember that it’s the spaces, light and air that create a clean and contemporary finish. If that means doing away with all your clutter and unnecessary furniture so be it - honeymoon suites are about the simple things in life.
Being such a private room, your bedroom really can be as personal as you want it to be. Take joy in knowing that you can add less practical features in a bedroom, such as white carpets, and then use these luxuries to set new rules for yourself: vow to spend at least 20 minutes a day reading a book, or snuggled up to your loved one or fabulous silk cushion; always walk barefoot and covered from head to toe in body lotion; and most of all, love your space.
