Kids’ Bedrooms

There’s so much fun to be had decorating a child’s bedroom.

It’s the one space in the house that can have lots of fun injected into it but at the same time needs to be very practical, whether it’s for a newborn baby, toddler or older child.

For newborns, finding the perfect cot is very important. The Kily Cot Bed from StoryNorth actually grows with the child - the cot bed from Danish designers Sebra starts at a length of 110cm and extends to 150cm and is perfect as you little one can ‘grow up’ with the same bed from birth to early childhood (up to seven years). This Orpheus round cot from Bambizi looks so grandiose - it’s like a four poster cot. Dramatic and completely different, its design is beautiful, and it has a secure cot gate and adjustable mattress height for when the child grows. Bambizi has the most wonderful furniture – British made and crafted beautifully.

Mums and dads will spend a lot of time in the room too, so a comfortable armchair is another useful addition. Babies and children can also (without knowing it) collect lots of little bits and bobs – clothes, toys, dummies etc – that need to be stored away. A large set of drawers with lots of compartments will be perfect to keep everything in its place and tidy. Betta Living has a range of sliding wardrobes with bespoke wardrobe interiors available, which are particularly suitable to loft conversions as they help to maximise the space.

For flooring there’s a wide range to choose from, including vinyl, which is durable and very easy to keep clean (a must as kids are so prone to spilling, as well as crawling around on the floor exploring). Harvey Maria has a colourful collection in 13 block colours ranging from pure latte white to sizzling raspberry and pistachio green.

As your little ones grow up, small additions like a height chart will come in handy (no more pencil markings on the wall...). There are some very sweet designs, and my favourite is All Tidied Up’s Animal Tower. As the name suggests it’s a wall sticker tower made up of an elephant, horse, dog, giraffe, chicken and little bird that reaches 150cm, although I’m sure it would be much taller in the wild! It’s a nice way to accessorise plain walls, adding a splash of colour and fun.
