Prodigy Needs Sponsor

She’s only twelve years old, but her coach rates her as ‘nothing short of a prodigy’ and is confidently predicting that she will be representing Britain soon.

Step forward Anusha Schutz – a Surrey girl with the potential to become the new face of British tennis and the darling of Wimbledons yet to come.

Anusha, from Merrow, Guildford, is a relatively late comer to the game. She has only been playing since she was eight, but her progress has been phenomenal. Her LTA ranking has progressed from 9.2 to 7.1 in just two months and she is on track to reach a ranking of 6.2 by the end of the current tennis season.

Her coach, Neil Carter puts Anusha’s progress in to perspective: ‘I am confident that, by the end of this year, Anusha will reach a rating of 6.1 - which makes her nothing short of a prodigy!’

But Anusha’s progress could be stifled; and her talents slip under the radar. She won a scholarship to Sutton Tennis Academy and six weeks ago she left Cheam High School, to focus on her tennis. She has now started a new regime of self-schooling and a rigorous, six-hour a day coaching and fitness programme. She now needs to start playing in tournaments abroad, from when she turns 13. Anusha has the drive and the talent, but her family sadly do not have the money to fund her travel and accommodation. In short, she is in desperate need of sponsorship.

‘I love my tennis,’ Anusha says, ‘but, unlike in other countries, youngsters in Britain need corporate sponsorship to fund travel to tournaments abroad,’ says Anusha. ‘I would be happy to wear company logos in tournaments across Britain and Europe and any sponsor would be credited with supporting the future of British tennis.’

In July Anusha won the County Cup for Surrey. She currently ranks second in Surrey and has fast-tracked from 496 in the country to 15th in her age group. She is set to be within the top ten by September.

‘Anusha is a class above the rest and is certainly deserving of sponsorship to help her achieve her potential,’ says Neil Carter. ‘Only by playing in these tournaments can she gain the experience to compete at the highest level.’

Anyone interested in sponsoring Anusha – or finding out more about what sponsorship would involve – is invited to contact her mother, Karen: karenschutz1000@gmail.com, or the Sutton Tennis Academy on 020 8641 6611.
