Talented SW19 singer Daniela Brooker is one to watch.
With so many successful home grown singers like Adele, and the late Amy Winehouse to achieve acclaimed success in the UK and across the pond, I was excited to hear that local up-and-coming singer Daniela Brooker is looking to break into the music scene this year.
The Wimbledon based singer recently turned 18 and has just graduated from the Arts Ed School in West London (a school with famous alumni including actress Julie Andrews and singer Will Young). She’s just been in the US doing some promotional work for her forthcoming single Summer Love and the press over there seem to have fallen in love with her. I went along to Daniela’s showcase at the Cuckoo Club in the heart of London amid press and music industry people – her energy on stage together with powerful vocals did not fail to disappoint. The super summer tune Turn It Up, is a wonderful track that will make you want to dance out in the sun all day long and would be a perfect song to add to a summer playlist.
There’s something about Daniela’s look, though very much a London style to reflect her London roots that reminds me of Shakira. It’s probably due to the sheer amount of energy she gives on stage, even getting in to the crowd to get people to shake their bodies! A beautiful cover of Adele’s Someone Like You wowed the crowd - Daniela said herself: if she was to cover anything it would only be something as amazing as the song she had chosen. She pulled it off with ease, and dare I say that her version is almost just as good as the original, given that Adele is the force to be reckoned with in music right now and leading the helm of talented British female singer songwriters.
The young singer has also worked with former Kooks drummer Paul Garred to co-write two tracks, and Jamiroquai has produced some of her songs - considering what she has shown so far we should watch this space as I’m sure bigger things will come for the talented local singer songwriter – I’ll certainly have my eyes and ears peeled.
