In a rapid fire blog post designed to catch those of you who are about to open bags of sugar to bake for a MacMillan Cancer Trust Coffee Morning, I wonder if I can convince you to make bread instead?
Bread is a baked good! Bread is a wonderful compliment to the cakes and cookies that will no doubt be at your coffee morning. Many people don’t actually want to eat cake and will be thrilled with you for bringing bread! Stand out from the crowd and bake some bread!
Yesterday there was coffee morning baking going on here at the global HQ of Virtuous Bread. We were baking sourdough which will be perfect by Friday but you can put together a simple loaf with yeast in a few hours and take it with you on Friday to your coffee morning: plenty of time! I have been lucky enough to have been invited to the Harvest breakfast at new Covent Garden Market in Nine Elms (south west London and I encourage all of you to go – it’s amazing) and I found out that Tony’s Café, where I habitually have a bacon sarnie and a cup of milky Nescafe, is having a bake sale to raise money for the MacMillan Cancer Trust. It caused me to reflect that maybe Tony has lost a loved one to cancer. A little fact about him that I had never considered even though we regularly chat and he knows my order. So much about people we don’t know. Anyway, if you are hosting a coffee morning or going to a coffee morning you may want to put away the sugar bag and try to bake a loaf of bread. If you are not going to a coffee morning you may want to bake some bread and invite the neighbours in for the first time and have an impromptu coffee morning of your very own.
I have put a post up on the VB website that includes a really easy recipe and links to little videos that help you out if you are not exactly sure what to do. You can find that at my website below.
