Santa-Tini: The Perfect Christmas Cocktail

Christmas is the most popular party season of the year and what with threats of another recession looming us Brits are getting rather money savy when it comes to our festive socialising.

Santa-TiniWhy waste money hiring out bars or booking up events when you can host an equally memorable and Christmassy get-together in the comfort of your own home! But what makes a good party?

From Sunday afternoon marathons of Come Dine With Me, we’ve all learnt that the key to being a good host is spending time with your guests. Wrong. In actual fact, the key to good hosting is keeping your guests boozed up! That’s right folk, get your visitors tipsy and you’re guaranteed to be scored at least a 9 out of 10. Let’s face it, alcohol is the primary ingredient to a good party and I’ve created a cost-effective yet luxuriously festive cocktail that is bound to keep you, your purse and your party-goers smiling. The Santa-tini is the perfect crowd pleaser – it has sparkle, it has Christmas berries and most importantly it has vodka. This, dear friends, is a winner. Fact.

This recipe makes enough for 8 glasses of Santa-tini you will need:

  • 1 bottle of sparkling wine – champagne/prosecco/cava – as cheap or as pricey as you like
  • 360ml vodka (36cl)
  • 8 tablespoons of creme de cassis (I used De Kuyper)
  • 400ml raspberry juice (you could also use pomegranite or cranberry juice)
  • handful of ice cubes
  1. Into a cocktail shaker add the ice cubes, vodka, creme de cassis and raspberry juice
  2. Shake the shaker – remember to hold the lid on tightly...
  3. Pour equal measurements into the glasses
  4. Top up the glasses with the sparkling wine

I served my Santa-tinis in martini glasses (because that’s what I serve all alcoholic drinks in...) which I’d dipped in an egg white then into a bowl of sugar to give it a frosted effect.

This drink is super for a party as you can make the mix in advance then pop open the sparkling wine in front of the guests for a bit of festive fun. Hey presto you’ve got an inexpensive, easy and very Christmassy drink that everyone will love!

Merry Christmas! *hic*
