Bike Race Street Party

No tickets to the Olympics? No worries! Head over to Lacy Road, Putney where you can watch the 2012 Olympic Cycling Road Race.

Cyclists will begin the race at the Mall and pass through Putney twice. All spots are free so make sure to campout early if you want a place near the front.

If you can’t manage to beat the crowds there will be a large flat screen erected to catch all the action. In addition to the racing there will be a variety of activities available to entice people of all ages.

For the fashionistas there will be a Best of British Fashion Show inside the Exchange Shopping Centre previewing Autumn Collections from an array of stores including Gap and Monsoon. Shows are 45 minutes long and begin at 11 till 3:15. If you favour something less artsy and more active there will be special attractions inside the Lacy Road Marquee.

The Wattbike, located inside the Marquee, is an indoor bike which can measure your power output, heart rate and peddling technique. Children and adults alike are welcome to test their cycling skills.

If you're looking to simply relax and enjoy the party, Radio Jackie will be playing tunes throughout the day and also holding competitions. For example, children under 11 can compete for the best Olympic-inspired outfit.

Magicians, face-painters and a bouncy castle will be on-hand to delight children of all ages. Not all of these activities will be free, but funds raised benefit The Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability. The Royal Hospital is a Putney charity which cares for the severely disabled.

So whether wanting to watch the race or just enjoy the party, Lacy Road is a great place to spend your Saturday.
