Corman’s World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel (Culture Shock) will be showing at Clapham Picturehouse on 21 February
Roger Corman, one of Hollywood’s most influential movie makers will be celebrated in the feature-length documentary - Corman’s World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel (Culture Shock). The documentary will take a look at Corman’s approach to independent film making as a writer, director, producer and at times actor.
Corman’s career began in the 1950s – he first worked as a producer and screenwriter in 1953, before directing films in 1955. Born in Detroit, Corman attended Stanford University after high school to study industrial engineering. Soon he recognized that this was not the career path he wanted, having always been interested in film he realised his talents lay elsewhere.
Corman is known to have mentored many famous film directors, in their earlier days, such as Martin Scorsese, Ron Howard, Francis Ford Coppola and many more. He has also had small acting roles in films such as Apollo 13, The Godfather Part II and The Silence of The Lambs. In 2009 he was awarded the Honorary Academy Award, an award that has been presented to many important individuals within film, such as James Stewart and Laurence Olivier.
The documentary is said to be a fantastic and highly entreating tribute to Roger Corman and first premiered at the Sundance Festival in 2011.
