A Tidy Mind: Declutter for Good Health

A Tidy Mind reveals why clearing away your clutter really does make a difference to your wellbeing

Our health is the most important thing to us as human beings. Our bodies react significantly to our surrounding physical environments and our brain controls how our body feels constantly. A cluttered home contributes to stress which has adverse effects on our physical and emotional well-being, so why do we often ignore the signs?

What is clutter?

Clutter cannot be defined, as it is seen differently from one person to the next. It’s a question of, do you really need all the things that are taking up so much of your emotional and physical space.

Why have I accumulated clutter?

Clutter is sneaky, it creeps in on you and before you know, it has taken over your life. It is a build up over time of our emotional state and the need to hold on to something or fear of letting go. It is important to realise the initial cause in order to make a change and take back control!

How does it affect my health?

Clutter causes stress which can lead to physical symptoms such as headaches, muscle tension, dizziness, insomnia, fatigue and overeating. Emotionally you will feel more anxious and irritable with a lowered self-esteem. Mentally you will worry more, have difficulty making decisions and maintaining concentration.

How can I get rid of clutter?

Decluttering and organising your life is a process and requires a lot of thought, motivation and emotional support. Take accountability, find the motivation and if you need to, the support of a professional. Imagine your ideal home and life, set that as a goal and work to achieve that goal, kicking that ‘I should have,’ ‘I want to but,’ voice in your head to the curb.

Set small manageable tasks for yourself to do daily and work your way up from there.

Once you have decluttered your life you will feel lighter, the air will be softer to breathe, you can focus on the present, work to achieve your goals and you can even use that room you could never use before. You will take better care of yourself, you will harness more patience and your energy will rise!
