Office Dressing During a Heatwave

We’re pretty certain you’ve noticed it’s rather hot out there. As welcome as the late twenties and early thirties are when you’re pool-side with a cool cocktail in hand, these temperatures aren’t exactly ideal for going about your day-to-day business and, as Brits, we’re all struggling to cope. In an ideal world, normal office attire would be scrapped during a heatwave of this magnitude and we’d all swan into work dressed in a floaty sarong. This would, of course, be pretty unacceptable, so what on earth should we be wearing?

Shirt dress

If you picked up our August magazine, you may have noticed we’re coveting shirt dresses at the moment. They’re versatile, stylish, and above all, easy to just throw on, meaning that your early morning routine requires little-to-no thinking. What’s more, and most importantly, they’ll keep you cool in the sweltering heat, while still looking effortlessly smart.

Midi skirts

Midi skirts are the must-have item of clothing of the summer. Coming in all colours and patterns, a midi-length skirt is a statement look that can elevate your outfit to another level of office chic, but can also be kept casual and effortless, modestly paired with a simple white tee. They’re typically light too and you can feel comfortable exposing some leg without going all out at work.

Sandals

It may seem obvious, but I’ve seen plenty of toe-covered flats around the office and it’s making me sweat. People may be averse to wearing revealing footwear in the workplace, but investing in sandals is investing in a staple piece of any summer wardrobe. Not all sandals have to be casual (I’m certainly not alluding to flip flops here), for example, be sure to keep an eye out for stylish summery espadrilles, or maybe some strappy leather sandals with a bit of a heel if you’re hesitant to go too informal.

Culottes

These cosy trousers have been on trend since the days of the beast from the east (oh, what we would give for its return now!), but during winter, attempting to pair midi-length loose trousers with pasty legs poking out, plus finding any appropriate winter footwear to match was quite the mission. Culottes are now experiencing quite the summer renaissance and have stood the fashion test of time, with a popular seasonal office look being culottes paired with a summery top and bold sandals.
