Five gelaterias to get you through a heatwave

With temperatures spiking this week at around 32 degrees, the capital has experienced a week of sweltering sunburn. Here are five local ice cream parlours to help you keep your cool

Gelateria Danieli
Brewers Lane is an intriguing little alley way in Richmond that spectacularly opens out onto the green. It’s made up of charming independent shops, a couple of bars, but undoubtedly its crowning glory is the humble Gelateria Danieli. On sunny days, queues will form stretching all the way down to the green, made up of sweet toothed sun worshipers desperate for a scoop of one of 24 flavours of supreme gelato.

Nardulli
This quaint little parlour sits right on Clapham Common, meaning it is fantastically situated for a leisurely passeggiata through the park on a sunny day, while enjoying some cold and creamy gelato. The style of the café is typically Italian, and this extends to the flavours which range from the traditional (stracciatella or fior di latte), to the exotic (cardamom or fig).

Unico Gelato & Caffe
Just a stone’s throw from the Thames, this Fulham-based gelateria prides itself on the best quality homemade gelato. The café pays close attention to the quality and product, using the best organic ingredients to make sure their gelato is distinctively creamy and swirly. Popular options include their salted caramel and the biscotto (yum), and they’ve also got a handful of vegan flavours including dark chocolate and mango sorbet.

Oddono’s Gelato
So creamy and authentic is this gelato that the team at Oddono’s has won well-deserved awards. On the menu are a dazzling 130 flavours to pick from, ranging from the classic favourites to the not so classic, with basil or vodka even featuring on the menu. On a sunny summer’s day you can almost guarantee a queue, but the sheer number of people who venture through the doors of Oddono’s is a testament to the flavours and quality of the ice cream.

Wafflemeister
As the name suggests, this Wimbledon hotspot specialises in waffles, but its gelato is pretty great too and is sure to help you cool down on a sweltering summer’s day. With an abundance of elaborately decorated sundaes on the menu, visitors to Wafflemeister can enjoy multiple Italian flavours, with chocolate brownie, crème brulee, and vanilla bean all on the menu, and topped off with a layered liege waffle.
