Girl Power Kicks In

The support of two Wimbledon businesses, Holistic Fitness Studios and Hartley Fowler accountants, made it possible for local kickboxer Katarzyna Kuczynska to compete in the recent European Championships.

Kat, 35, from Wimbledon Village, was selected to be part of Team GB at the World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO) held recently in Slovenia. A black belt grade, Kat has been kickboxing for many years and has trained with the Holistic Fitness Studios since 2010. During that time she has competed in regional competitions across the UK but last year her talent was spotted and she was invited to train with Team GB.

Kat increased her training to five times a week with Holistic Fitness owner and personal trainer Steve Dixon. Steve introduced a general fitness plan and a number of high intensity exercises which are ideal for the short, yet ferocious physical endurance contact sports require. ‘Kat is a great member of our fight team and is going from strength to strength,’ said Steve. ‘Being selected to the GB team is a great accolade and she is very deserving of it.’

Kat was selected as one of the 20-member GB team to compete in Slovenia but competitors must fund their own participation – and funding was beyond Kat’s reach. Hartley Fowler accountants generously agreed to sponsor the full cost to send Kat to the championships. ‘Hartley Fowler was very pleased to support Katarzyna,’ said Jonathan Askew, partner at Hartley Fowler. ‘We are a firm that deeply believes in helping individuals and groups that benefit the community and to be sponsoring Katarzyna to be part of the British Team was great.’ Although Kat did not win a medal in Slovenia, she has just won a British Grand Champion award from CIMAC, one of Britain’s leading competition organisations.
