On Friday 1 June, women will be donning their finest outfits, complete with show-stopping hats, shoes and accessories to attend Ladies’ Day at Epsom, and scrutinising them will be Irish model and TV personality Vogue Williams – who is this year’s Ladies’ Day Ambassador and judge of the coveted Style Award, a role she has happily taken on twice before.

“When I was asked to do it, I jumped at the chance because I just love races fashion and the atmosphere is always amazing. I am absolutely delighted to be back at Epsom again,” explains Vogue, who is also DJ-ing at the event after the racing concludes. “But the best part is getting to choose the best dressed winner because I get to go around looking at everyone’s outfits and I’m allowed to stare and not be considered strange!”

Women who want to enter the Style Award competition – where the best dressed lady will win a host of top prizes – can put their names forward on the day, however, Vogue and her team will also be scouting them out. But what does she look for?

“The fashion at Epsom is always fantastic. And it’s always quite a difficult one to choose because everyone here really has their game on,” Vogue says. “I go for a whole look, from the hat, shoes, dress, jacket and handbag. These women really, really pull it out of the bag for Ladies’ Day but there is always somebody who just has that little something extra.”

Vogue is used to being in the limelight herself, and she recently announced she is expecting her first child with fiancé Spencer Matthews, the former Made in Chelsea star who she met when they both took part in Channel 4 reality series The Jump last year. The couple makes no bones about being madly in love and, while their wedding is some way off, Vogue admits they have started thinking about their big day.

“Our wedding planning is going well,” she smiles. “We’re not too far into it as yet, and we’ve got quite a while to go. It’s going to be fun for both of us and we’re not really stressing as we’re going to take our time. We’re just excited about having all of our family and friends together in one place.”

Vogue is well-known for her love of keeping fit, with at least five trips to the gym per week. She was crowned the winner of Bear Grylls: Mission Survive in 2015, a reality show which saw her compete against eight other celebrities on a 12-day survival mission that tested her mettle and pushed her mental and physical limits to the brink. But even she admits to allowing herself the odd naughty treat now and then – she says it is about being consistent the rest of the time.

“I love food. I’m never too hard on myself about what I eat. I mean I went for an Indian last night and I ate all the poppadoms on the table, but I just make better choices the next day. And I go to the gym a lot because I do eat a lot!”

Even though Vogue has yet to choose her outfit for Ladies’ Day, she is excited about the forthcoming event which is famous for its celebration of females both on and off the course, with the feature race, The Investec Oaks, attracting the top middle-distance three-year-old fillies in the country.

“Epsom really is one of my favourite race days and I missed it last year! Spencer went and I was really jealous because I really do love it,” she laughs. “And for some reason, it always has nice weather – although I really shouldn’t jinx it!”
