Sounding Out

There is a very special gig taking place at the Tooting Tram and Social on Wednesday 4 November, as the wonderful Wolf Alice headline in aid of the Make Some Noise charity, in association with Stub Hub. Created by Global Radio, Make Some Noise is a charity that aims to help change young people’s lives through the power of music. Sound good? Well, tickets are only £10, and all proceeds go towards this fabulous charity. The night will be hosted by X Radio’s John Kennedy, and support comes from Blossoms and Broken Hands. Chuck on your gladrags, as the night is being filmed.

Big names are heading to south west London this month... the fabulous Brandon Flowers is playing at the O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on Monday 16 November. If you haven’t heard his recent album, The Desired Effect, then I would heartily recommend sticking it on your Christmas list.

If you fancy a boogie this month without having your ears blown off, then why not catch the fantastic Blackbyrds at Under the Bridge on Friday 27 November. One of the all time great funkfusion bands, the Blackbyrds were formed in 1973 in Washington DC., and are best known for their million-selling song Walking in Rhythm. This should be a belter.

Finally, don’t forget to check out the Wimbledon International Music Festival this month. This growing local classical music festival takes place between the 14 and 29 November. I mention it here because I will be down there to see the Philharmonia Orchestra performing my all-time favourite classical work: Mozart’s 40th Symphony on Sunday 29 November. Tickets start at only £5 for students.
