Niven’s Nomination

A tribute, in the style of poet Murray Lachlan Young:

Tumbling words
With archival vibrations afoot
Here in Teddington
The Gothic skeletal body of prayer
Niven’s Landmark Arts Centre
Transformed into an echoing
London Underground
The curvaceous sounds of
Touted best lyricist Mr. Martin Seager
Juggling stagecraft
With luxurious swashbuckling
From the man with those Byronesque curls
Mr. Murray Lachlan Young
6 Music’s peppy-blooded poet
Dabbling wordplay alongside
Devon and Radio 4’s indefatigably comic-tongued
Fair magician, Mr. Matt Harvey
Not crackling from a radio
With awkward woofers and tweeters
Put fully present, here no less

Teddington has longed for a Word Café!
Full licence to proudly
Affirm those beating hearts of
Local writers and poets
Or just the quieted soul of the audience
‘Niven’s’ landmark would be proud of the
Exquisite ideas and form
Of Arts
Of craft
Of children’s Monkey Music
Laughter with genteel toe-tappng
In yogic heart poses
From Strawbs to orchestral delights
A full palette of colours serving not only mixed media
But an eclectic side salad of harmonious
Food for thought

Now, come, come to The Word Café!
A local lass hosts with quivering quill
Ms. Julie Mullen
Scratching words and delivering
Sensation blended with dotty crotchets yet
‘Tis the fair maiden heralding from
St. Andrews with her lush prize
That with rapturous applause and
Perhaps a gentle tap-tap-tip on her shoulder to discover
How do you win The Bridport Poetry Prize
Ms. Claudia Daventry? Come clean!

The young voice, discovered on the underground
Will entrance those earthy notes of ‘Southgate & Leigh’
Their pip will out-pip any piper to the Teddington post
With songs you will surely be humming alongside those of the
Commuters from “MIND (THE GAP)” the next morn’

Come to The Word Café on
2nd May and see creativities
Boundless array
Of gentlefolk whose pen poised
Will enliven your local hearts
Forever!
