House and home

As supporters of the local area, we at Time & Leisure are always glad that a location holds its own property price wise, and Kingston certainly does that.

We are all interested in the price of our own home, and house prices are still a big talking point at dinner parties. Many of our readers love the property section of T&L and use it to check the current value of properties similar to their own.

Of course there is a shortage of housing currently. My colleague and boss (and founder of T&L) has a suggestion. He notes that HMS Ark Royal, the aircraft carrier is up for sale for £2.9 million which is actually within the reach of many, thanks to escalating property prices. He offers, should you make the purchase, a word of caution: parking might be a problem – there is not much room at Portsmouth any more and it’s too big for the Thames at Kingston.

Downsizing was a great plan, but the kids never leave home now. And because the kids aren’t leaving home, we cannot fob them off with our old stuff for their flats whilst we buy lovely new furniture. Decluttering is all very well but where will all our old furniture go? Charity shops must benefit from this stagnation, Princess Alice Hospice shop in Kingston excels at recycling pre-loved furniture.

At last, summer looks like it might have finally arrived and we are celebrating with the advent of IYAF (International Youth Arts Festival) and Kingston Food Festival as well as a host of lovely ideas of Things to Do now the sun’s out. Enjoy flaming June and see you in July.
