Are you the ideal soprano?

Ever since it was founded by Tony Kane, back in the 90s, Time & Leisure has played its full part in the cultural life of the communities we serve.

Art, theatre, music and literature have all benefited from our editorial support – and long may that proud record continue.

With this in mind I have decided to go public and ask you, the readers to help me with a music project I am working on at the moment, so that Time & Leisure can take at least part ownership in the plans for an inaugural concert later this year. The core of my group – Guest House Opera – is to be a vocal quartet - yes, soprano, mezzo soprano, tenor and bass/baritone - and the newlook foursome will make its debut at this year’s Imagine Festival in Sutton, in late September, singing some sea songs I am writing especially for the festival, which has a sea/water theme.

The idea is to make this a professional, classically based quartet led by an exceptional soprano. We want a talented young singer with the ability to lead the group and blend effortlessly with the other voices. This soprano – who we have not yet found – will be a good sight reader, too; the repertoire will range from tonal to atonal but will always be melodic.

So, the appeal goes out for a soprano from the Surrey and south west London area. You may be the singer we want – or you may know someone who you feel will fit the bill admirably. An audition will be held to select someone, so anyone interested should send their details to us at www.timeandleisure.co.uk/soprano. A date has not been fixed yet, but it will be in late June at the earliest, to give readers the chance to register their interest.

With this input from you, the readers, we see the group as being something you have part ownership in and to this end we will keep you all fully informed of the quartet’s progress, going forward.
