A New Start

Very few can claim to have made a greater contribution to local life in Wimbledon than our very own Tony Kane.

He founded Time & Leisure more than 15 years ago and during that time has been a massive supporter of the arts, the theatre, local restaurants and business. As well as recording and reporting on local life, he is very much immersed in shaping the community as we have seen through his initiatives such as BookFest, which gave us a new landmark, the tent on the Common. Tony is Mr Wimbledon but after more than 15 years at the helm of T&L he has decided to ease off the accelerator.

Tony has handed over the running of what I shall still call ‘his magazine’ to me. I am delighted to be appointed the new editor of T&L Wimbledon, Wandsworth, Putney and Barnes and I’m riding a wave of exhilaration combined with nervous trepidation but calmed by the thought that Tony will remain a ship steward in the form of company director and regular columnist. Tony’s unmistakable voice will still be present as he will be writing the monthly EYE, with more of the much loved personal touch that comes with freedom from deadlines!

A bit about me: I am married with two young children and live in Putney. We love all things local and spend much of our leisure time on the banks of the Thames or cycling on Wimbledon Common as a counterbalance to our love of dining out and tech-addictions!

As editors of your local mag, our role is to bring you the best of what’s on. We are aware your leisure time is valuable so our energetic team tenaciously scours the entire local area to select the top events, theatre, music, restaurants and shopping.

This month we bring you a bumper interiors issue headlined by the gorgeous and talented Kelly Hoppen, we take you fashion forecasting for the 2014 trends, and find out how our favourite mums intend to spend Mothering Sunday. I had the chance to meet Paul Michael Glaser from Starsky and Hutch who serenaded me during the interview. An unexpected first!

We love hearing from you so do get in touch with your news, tips and great local discoveries. Here’s wishing all of our mums a very special Mother’s Day. May you have a long lie in.

Kate Miranda is editor of the Wimbledon, Wandsworth and Putney editions of Time & Leisure Magazine.
