We’re going nuts for May

As Thomas Mallory wrote: ‘The month of May was come, when every lusty heart beginneth to blossom, and to bring forth fruit’.

No wonder we’re a bit giddy with excitement. There’s a huge number of exciting arts initiatives happening or previewing this month and we are all agog for the brand new Create in Kingston Festival which takes place on the May Bank Holiday, giving our much loved old May Merrie Festival a new dimension.

Also this month we say hello to some of the new restaurants opening on the river – Cote opened first and is joined by Cau with a bold beefy Argentinean flavour. Don’t forget to vote for them – and other favourites - in our Food & Drink Awards. Now the recession has lifted, we are all hoping that dining out will make a comeback – and in Kingston we are spoiled for choice so let’s celebrate and make the most of our restaurants, takeaways, pubs and drinks suppliers (vote at www.timeandleisure.co.uk/foodawards).

Still on food, Albert and Michel (be still my beating heart) Roux were launching their new menu Chez Roux on the Prince’s Lawn for the Derby and I got lucky and was invited to meet them. I was of course completely tongue tied when I met them – but luckily my colleague Chris was on hand to do the interview. And yes, Michel’s smile is just as heavenly close up…

Anyway, back to work. The Investec Derby is a major part of the British social calendar – and an important landmark in the sporting calendar too, as it marks the start of the flatracing season. This year’s Face of the Derby is the beautiful model Jodie Kidd, and my colleague Chris managed to nab an interview with her too.

Have a lovely May and see you at the races.
