Sutton Women Mean Business Awards

Nominations and entries open for Sutton’s most inspiring women

Exciting new awards recognising women in Sutton are now inviting nominations and entries

Sutton Women Mean Business Awards launched suitably on International Women’s Day on 8 March with the unveiling of a unique commemorative portrait exhibition of inspirational women across the borough. The new awards, a joint initiative between Successful Sutton BID and White Label Creative, are open to women working across all professions, businesses and sectors, including charities and social enterprise in Sutton. There are nine free and easy-to-enter categories, including a ‘Contribution to the Community’ award, a ‘Women in Frontline Services’ award, ‘Women in Retail’ among many others. You can easily register and apply – or nominate someone else – in up to three by visiting the website.

You don’t have to be the CEO or a high flyer to enter or nominate someone for the awards. Patricia Park, BID Manager, Successful Sutton, said, “I hope people will nominate those who have inspired them and inspired others – women and men who are doing a good job by going above and beyond and who fit the awards criteria. As women, we are particularly bad at putting ourselves forward, so I would also urge you to nominate yourself.”

Over tea, cakes and prosecco at Sutton Point, more than 80 guests at the awards launch heard inspirational speeches from business, political and community leaders – including local Tropic Skincare entrepreneur Susie Ma – who all embraced the International Women’s Day theme, ‘Balance for Better.’ Guests also got a first look at the stunning, specially commissioned pop art portraits in the Sutton Inspirational Women Photographic Exhibition. All 14 featured women were nominated by local organisations because their success and ability to make a difference in their chosen fields mark them out as role models for other women.

The eventual winners of the new awards – who will be exclusively announced at a glittering gala dinner in September – will go on to be next year’s Sutton Inspirational Women.
