Christmas lights switch-ons
Here’s where and when to watch our towns come to life in all their festive glory…
Kingston light switch-on, 14 November
The countdown to Christmas begins in Kingston with a special festive version of the much-loved market, plus entertainment throughout the town centre. Towards the end of the day, gather around the tree in Clarence Street, sing a hymn or two, and watch as the town is bathed in the Christmassy glow of twinkling fairy lights. Richmond, 21 November
The annual Christmas light switch on in Richmond is quite the spectacle, drawing in crowds from across London with special markets, a Santa’s grotto and plenty of live music, all in the picturesque riverside town. There will also be a grand finale of fireworks from the green at around 6.15/6.30pm after the lights switch on.
The Ashley Centre, Epsom, 23 November
Take part in the festive entertainment throughout the day from noon, as the centre lights up for Christmas. Stars from the Epsom Playhouse pantomime will be putting on a show to help spread joy and festive cheer. Light switch on: 5pm
Duke of York Square, 23 November
See the streets of Chelsea come to life, plus real reindeer and even Father Christmas. There will be entertainment, including stilt-walkers, ballerinas, festive tunes and mulled wine galore. Light switch on: 5pm on Sloane Square.
Epsom, 28 November
Watch the town centre burst into the festive spirit with the annual Christmas lights switch-on at Epsom High Street. Local school children will be on hand to provide some seasonal entertainment in addition to food stalls, rides and even an appearance from Santa himself. 4pm – 8pm.
Teddington, 28 November
An annual event where all of Teddington’s local businesses will come together under Teddington Together, to bring Christmas to the high street and a special celebration culminating in the light switch-on. 5pm-8pm, Teddington High Street.
Putney, 29 November
The team at Positively Putney will be holding the annual Christmas light switch-on at with a line-up of great street performers, performances from local schools and an inflatable snow globe. Light switch on: 6pm

Wimbledon town centre, 1 December
The Wimbledon Winter Wonderland will have a whole host of activities including an ice sculpture show, roller skating Christmas puddings, a market and a snow globe photobooth. lovewimbledon.org/
Over at Centre Court, join in its Winter Wonderland day for family fun, see Santa, entertainment and special offers. www.centrecourtshopping.co.uk/
There’s fireworks too at the end of the day.
Wimbledon Village, 8 December
A fantastic day of festive fun in the Village. Santa rides through on horseback, there are fairground rides, food and drink and a market. www.wimbledon-village.com/
