Is it expensive?

On a starting basis, we think a fireplace can always look expensive on paper. But appliances, surrounds and accessories are usually installed with a plan to stay for quite some time. It’s not something you look to do and change in a couple of years’ time. If you spread the cost of a fireplace over 10 years, it would actually be quite a minimal investment in your property that would provide you with much more positives than negatives over that time. We tell our customers the same thing all the time; don’t rush, take your time choosing and make sure it’s the right decision as once it’s in you don’t intend on taking it back out!

Why do it this time of year?

It’s no secret that fireplace companies quieten down every so slightly between March-August. Installers take advantage of the downtime and go on holiday after what is always a manic winter season. You’ll find some companies and brands will provide better deals within the summer seasons to keep work in full production. But you’ve got more chance of all your styles being in stock without a back log or delay (as this is commonplace come September-February) and also you get much more time to make a decision you can be happy with without panicking you’ll have to wait four to six weeks for installation!

Popular trending aesthetics?

The order of the day is currently minimalist. Plain openings with the focal point being the fire that is installed. A flat finish to a chimney breast with either nothing or a solid oak beam just gracing the front. Everybody is different though and it’s important not to resign yourself to just one style just because everyone else is!

Anything else specific to consider?

Important parts to consider when choosing a fire are not always the obvious ones. Do you have provision to store your fuel to keep it at optimum condition? How often are you going to use the appliance? Do you have a chimney or access to a gas point near the fire? Do you already have under floor heating or radiators within the room? Do you want convenience over natural beauty? Or are you planning to make any alterations to the room or property that could affect the style of fireplace you choose?
