Delightful Christmas Table Decorations to Make at Home

Add something totally unique to this year’s festive table

Hands up who’s looking forward to Christmas?! After what seems like a very long and eventful year, the festive season couldn’t come soon enough. And being able to finally spend time with family and friends means we’re adding something totally unique and homemade to this year’s Christmas decor.

We’ve teamed up with Wayfair once again to showcase not one, but two holiday DIYs. Simply follow the steps below to create your very own personalised place settings and orange-scented candle centrepiece.

DIY Personalised Place Settings

What you’ll need:

  • Plain coasters
  • Vinyl name – cut out or ordered online
  • Transfer tape
  • Scraper

Step 1

Clean each coaster with soapy water then dry with a cloth. Leave for a few minutes until it dries completely.

Step 2

Cut off a piece of transfer tape big enough to cover the entire name you’ve chosen for your place setting. Layer this over the vinyl name and press down.

Step 3

Using the scraper, rub over the tape and vinyl.

Step 4

Carefully peel back the tape to remove the vinyl from the backing. Aim to do this in one piece.

Step 5

Place the backing tape sticky side down on the coaster. Make sure that it’s positioned in the middle.

Step 6

Use the scraper to rub over the surface of the tape again. This time, make sure the vinyl adheres to the coaster.

Step 7

Peel back the transfer tape from one corner. Do this slowly, checking that all the vinyl is stuck down to the coaster as you peel. If the vinyl sticks to the tape, repeat step 6.

Step 8

Once the tape has been removed, your place setting is good to go!

DIY Orange Peel Scented Candles

What you’ll need:

  • Oranges
  • Soy Wax
  • Orange extract
  • Candle wicks
  • Wicker holder
  • Pyrex glass bowl
  • Pan (small)
  • Rosemary

Step 1

Slice each orange in half and cut the flesh off the peel. Scoop any excess out with a spoon, remembering to take out as much as you can, leaving only the peel.

Step 2

Fill a small pan about a quarter of the way with water and turn on the heat. Place a heat resistant glass bowl in the pan and melt the soy wax into the bowl over a low heat.

Step 3

Once completely melted, turn the heat off and leave the wax to cool before pouring.

Step 4

Add a few drops of orange essential oil to the wax.

Step 5

Take a wick and dip the metal end into the wax. Hold this down on the bottom of the scooped out orange until the wax is dry, allowing the wick to set in place. If you’ve got a wick holder put it in place now, otherwise you can use skewers or sticks to hold it in place.

Step 6

Carefully pour the wax into the orange peel, filling to the top.

Step 7

Sprinkle a few rosemary leaves into the surface of the wax. Leave the wax to set, remembering to sprinkle a few more leaves for added festive effect.

Step 8

When the wax is fully set, remove the wick holder and trim the wick to around 1cm.

Step 9

Add your candles to your Christmas table centrepiece and enjoy!
