Raising the Game...

Start them young and watch them grow

In August 2013, the government produced a report on ‘how healthy behaviour supports children’s physical and emotional wellbeing’. The study found that children who spend more time on computers and playing video games tend to experience higher levels of emotional distress and anxiety.

Ali Jaffer, Founder of AJ Coaching and former professional cricketer, would urge parents to take a more proactive role in their child’s physical and social development and encourage less screen time and more field time.

‘Millions of people worldwide play cricket but involvement in the sport fosters myriad benefits to its players far beyond the sheer

enjoyment of the game’ says Ali. ‘Whilst the game itself provides an environment for the excitement of competition and camaraderie, it also positively impacts on the physical, mental and social development of children who take up the sport at an early age.’

Children’s coaching across the world has been re-examined in the last decade with new programmes emerging to help children develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes to give them the very best chance of staying active throughout their lives.

By dovetailing their first class playing experience with proven performance coaching techniques, AJ Coaching has created a

programme that enables children as young as five years old to play, enjoy and be educated through cricket right into maturity.

The ethos is simple: Cricket is a team sport. If children start playing young, the rhythms and disciplines they will learn, will enrich their lives now and help develop their confidence, self – worth and relationship building skills for later in life.

As well as the obvious health benefits, participation in physical activity has also been found to improve attention span and crucially, gets them off the ipad. Now Howzat!
