Outershade founders used their extensive knowledge, experience and delivery network to bring luxury awnings and garden fixtures to the UK market.

What was the mission at the start of the business?

3 years ago I developed a Victorian house in Devon. It was a massive challenge to find a nice, exciting and contemporary structure for placing on the outside of my home. I could see there was a gap in the market for glass houses, awnings and rigid garden structures.

The high quality of our products and our excellent customer service makes for a winning combination. With a bespoke measuring service and thousands of design combinations to choose from we ensure each and every client receives a one of a kind product to suit their lifestyle.

How do you define success?

Success to me is all about giving clients something they love and see real value in. It is also about giving the best quality and customer service.

What was your key driving force to becoming an entrepreneur?

Nearly 20 years ago, living in a rented house, looking for a job, I found my heavy manual garage door hard to operate. Having a bit of spare time, I fitted a motor to it. A neighbour asked me to fit one for them and my first business, Doormatic, was born. We are now one of the largest suppliers and fitters of automated garage doors and front doors in the South East.

What is the most satisfying moment for you in business and what do you have planned for the future?

The most satisfying part is knowing people love their new garden structure and the quality job we have done for them. I see growing the company as my goal for the future and building on the success of this year.
