It was April 2013, I was working as a freelancer architect in my home town of Betim, 30km outside the city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. Life was fast-paced, work was exhausting, but to complete my day I always got to go home to my adorable nine-year-old poodle, Joli.

Some weeks later, out of the blue, my life path took an unexpected turn. I was diagnosed with pneumonia and septicaemia which later I found out developed from a rather trivial but persistent sinus issue.

A few days after leaving intensive care, I spent some time reviewing my life and work demands, when one evening, laying there while my lovely Joli nursed me back to health, it dawned on me the extent to which an animal’s love can play on your soul. It was then I decided that animals had to feature more in my life and that was a promise that led me to fulfil my new dream of working with dogs.

My husband John, at that time 5,600 miles away back in Wimbledon, rung me with the news he had plans to open up a dog walking business which couldn’t have come at a better time. Life had somehow lined up all the stars for Alphabet to be born.

Five years on, as I write this article, I am very proud to say that we are now a fully established local favourite. We offer a personalised and flexible service that we feel
a dog walking company should bring.

Changing careers and moving to London, especially after 12 years as an architect in Brazil, was a huge step but a step that has brought me so much joy and happiness.
