Premier Kingston Business Awards open for 2019
The search for Kingston’s top businesses of 2019 is under way after an inspiring breakfast event at Kingston University
Guests at the launch of the 7th annual Kingston Business Awards in association with Willmott Dixon were urged to take advantage of the benefits of entering by the borough’s business and political leaders.
Organised in partnership with the Royal Borough of Kingston, Kingston Chamber of Commerce and Kingston First, the free and easy-to-enter awards offer 12 categories – refreshed for 2019 and listed below. Independent judges will decide on the winners through a stringent process. Although there is a chance for the public to vote in the Love Your Local Retailer category.
Forbes Low, Chairman of Kingston Chamber of Commerce, who welcomed guests and thanked sponsors at the launch, said entering the awards programme offers an ‘opportunity for every business’ to reap the benefits of being a winner. And
Rahim Nurmohamed, Managing Director of last year’s Kingston’s Business of the Year winner, White House Nursing Home, agreed. He said: “We were very proud and very surprised to have won. As a business, it really raised our profile. It is also so nice for a care home to win something, so we were really over the moon. What I’d say is to any business thinking of entering, is that the awards are really fair and are not industry specific. Winning an award means you can raise your profile, as well as generate more income and generate more turnover. So it really can benefit your business – you just need to enter.”
Guests also heard speeches by Tony Mingoia, Senior Operations Manager of headline sponsor Willmott Dixon; Ian Thomas, Chief Executive of Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames; and Professor Jill Schofield, of sponsor Kingston University, as well as glowing testimonials from some of the 2018 awards winners, including Charles Bamford, of Oxygen, Best Charity or Social Enterprise; Parvin Tank, of Wags N Tales, Best Marketing Campaign, Independent Retailer of the Year, Best Business for Food & Hospitality; and Stephen Ashcroft, of A & G Corporate Travel, Best New Startup.
The closing date for entries to the 2019 awards is Friday, 28th June. The winners, including Kingston Business of the Year, will be exclusively announced at the glittering black-tie Gala Awards Dinner on Thursday 10th October, 2019. Television presenters Michael Underwood and his wife Angelica Bell – who live in the borough – will be special guests at the dinner, with Michael hosting the Gala evening.
