Top outdoor cinemas for the summer months
As the weather warms up, we’re looking to the great outdoors to provide a scenic natural setting for outdoor cinemas
Taking over some of the UK’s most incredible heritage sites, from Hampton Court Palace to Battersea Park to Fulham Palace, the Luna Cinema returns year on year with a great line-up of films. Choose from blockbuster favourites like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid to modern classics like Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and enjoy a cinematic classic in a fabulous setting.
The Nomad Cinema
Back again for an immersive theatrical experience, The Nomad Cinema converts a series of quirky hot spots across the capital into cinemas, with 100% of the profits going to the Sustainability Institute – a pioneering environmental and educational charity in South Africa, so you can do good while enjoying your favourite flick. Take your pick from cinemas in Hyde Park, Brompton Cemetery, Leadenhall Market and many more.
Pop Up Screens
With locations including East Dulwich, Fulham, Hammersmith, Kingston and South Park in Parsons Green, Pop Up Screens will be yet again delighting crowds of south west London and Surrey with classics like Grease, 10 Things I Hate About You, The Breakfast Club and plenty more. Deck chairs will be provided plus foodie stands offering a helping of delicious helping of street food.
Silent Summer Screenings
With venues popping up around Colliers Wood, Sutton and Richmond, the Silent Summer Screenings 2019 summer series will be bringing you a host of your favourite films for film buffs to relax in the warm weather and enjoy the surrounds. There will be food and drink stands aplenty so you won’t go hungry, and headphones supplied, but remember to bring along blankets and cushions to get cosy.
Rooftop Film Club
Head further afield for an outdoor cinema experience that elevates the experience to another level by taking it to the skies. The Rooftop Film Club takes over venues across the capital, from the Bussey Building in Peckham (pictured) to Shoreditch’s Queen of Hoxton, to Roof East in Stratford so you can enjoy a blockbusters screening while soaking up the views. Foodies won’t be disappointed either, with a helping of excellent street food stands offering up a tasty selection to keep you content during the film.
Film4 Summer Screening at Somerset House
The architectural spectacle that is Somerset House will be yet again hosting a special summer screen series with a fortnight of quirky cult films like God’s Own Country, and 90s teen culture Clueless, as well as blockbuster phenomenal, Black Panther. 2019 marks Film4 Summer Screen’s 200th screening, so why not go all out for the special occasion by upgrading to a cosy beanbag or director’s chairs.
