Maurizio Pellizzoni: Interior Designer
Interior designer Maurizio Pellizzoni has been bringing his luxurious and elegant style to south west London and Surrey…
Originally from Lake Como, Maurizio Pellizzoni has been combining Italian glamour with influences from London, where is now based, and New York, to stunning effect. His projects have ranged from bijou townhouses to country mansions, where he interprets his clients’ styles without imposing his own.
Previously part of the creative team at Ralph Lauren Home for more than a decade, he branched out on his own and is known for his eye for detail and high-end glamour. One of his biggest to date was a Surrey Hills country mansion. “Because of its scale, it took a longer time to complete and took time to understand the client, the space and how to design each room with a unique style. The size alone of the property was a challenge but part of the brief was to reuse some of the client’s existing furniture in the scheme. It was so rewarding to see the house come together after more than four years of work and planning, but most of all to see the client’s reaction.”
“I’ve had many highlights throughout my career but I think each completed design has been a highlight in its own right,” he says. “I’ve been lucky to be able to express my passion for design and creativity by accomplishing something unique for my clients.”
Maurizio talks us through two of his very different projects…
SURREY HILLS COUNTRY MANSION
A timeless family mansion that brings the best of the American lifestyle to the British countryside.
I was commissioned to restructure and redesign this beautiful family home. The brief was to recreate the Hamptons in the Surrey Hills, and I set about creating an upscale ‘American look’ that incorporated the owners’ many personal antiques and objects d’art.
Many structural changes were made to the property to maximise the space and update this magnificent Edwardian property.
I worked to develop bespoke furniture pieces which use local craft, materials and resources to reinforce the connection between the property and its location in the English countryside
A beautiful family home designed for a celebrity couple in the heart of London.
The brief was to re-create the Ralph Lauren lifestyle and a calm and understated scheme. We achieved this by opting for dark wood furniture, a soft colour scheme and luxury finishes such as cashmeres and silks. I created many bespoke pieces of furniture for the house, one-off pieces were paired with antiques and accessorising kept to a minimum in the garden, hallway and bathrooms, the overall effect is one of uncluttered luxury.
The couple were moving out of a contemporary flat, which they found too cold and impersonal for their tastes and they wanted a more mature look in their first marital home. The aim was to create something classic and stylish that was also glamorous and feminine. The client requested a fast turn-around and minimum disruption.
