Mr Black

With espresso martinis officially being the nations favourite cocktail, discover Mr Black the perfect ingredient

Caffeine lovers, rejoice! Mr Black, the Australian coffee liqueur known for bringing craft coffee into the night, will launch a Single Origin product line to its UK portfolio this month. Already famed for its use by the world’s best bartenders and baristas, the Single Origin series will showcase the best coffee regions from around the globe, with the first batch made exclusively with special coffee from Acevedo, Colombia.

Made with 100% caturra arabica, Single Origin Colombia offers a fine balance of sweet fruit notes and natural ferment flavours. With its distinctive berry and fig character, this special edition represents the lighter side of the coffee spectrum when compared to the original Mr Black Coffee Liqueur, which is renowned for its robust dark chocolate and citrus flavour.

The much sought after ‘honey’ processed beans, nurtured by Luis Anibal of Finca Villa Betulia, near Huila in Colombia, undergo a light natural fermentation before processing, producing a delightfully smooth liqueur.

“In case you didn’t know, we are obsessed with good coffee here at Mr Black. We wanted to give those that love coffee as much as we do, the opportunity to celebrate the amazing diversity in flavour of single origin coffees – whether they are feeling it day or night”

says Mr Black Co-Founder, Tom Baker.

Mr Black supports small-scale farmers as well as offering coffee fanatics access to premium, sustainably grown coffee in a cocktail. Baker comments,

“One of the benefits of being a small company that focuses entirely on boozy coffee, is that we can produce interesting and unique innovations like this, working directly with small producers from all over the world.”

Ideal for night crawlers, the new Single Origin from Colombia is best enjoyed neat or over ice. Mr Black’s global coffee ambassador, Martin Hudák, adds,

“To pick up the complex aromas and flavours, I’d encourage people to try it by itself. Not to say that won’t inspire you to make a drink with complementary flavours – I put it in a delicious Old Fashioned style cocktail with sweet vermouth and dark rum.”

A nice addition to a “quarantini” cocktail menu, the limited edition Mr Black Single Origin – Colombia can be enjoyed in the comforts of your own home, and is available to order from The Whisky Exchange.

Meet Mr Black

After a chance meeting between Philip Moore, one of Australia’s foremost distillers, and Tom Baker, coffee-nerd and designer, Mr Black Roasters & Distillers was founded in August 2013 with a simple mission: take Australia’s coffee culture into the night. From humble beginnings, Mr Black has grown to encompass a collective of roasters, distillers, baristas and fanatics, preaching the virtues of coffee after dark. Mr Black is now available nationally, to take home and enjoy simply over ice, as a refreshing long drink with tonic, or shaken up in the UK’s favourite cocktail – the Espresso Martini.
