Putney High School is intellectually high-achieving but it also has a human face which is particularly impressive

Putney High School delivers a forward-thinking education that is broad, inspiring and relevant to the future world of work. The school builds creative thinkers with transferable skills, who aren’t afraid to think or do things differently. Girls go on to blaze impressive trails, with alumnae including Oscar-winning costume designer Jenny Beavan OBE, BBC broadcaster Sophie Raworth and Baroness Virginia Bottomley.

Putney High School - Time & Leisure Schools Guide

A Putney education is both innovative and scholarly. Record breaking A Level results in the last two years have seen students progress to the best universities in the world and win scholarships to US universities including Princeton and places at Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College and Durham amongst others. There are dedicated US Universities and UCAS coordinators and the music and arts departments regularly see exceptionally high acceptance rates at top music conservatoires and art colleges.

A cutting-edge Science, Music, Drama & Debating centre opens in autumn 2021, home to a broad offering of GCSE, A Level and pre-U subjects and evidence of commitment to a very modern, cross-curricular ethos. A successful entrepreneurship programme has now developed to include design thinking as part of the curriculum. Students are given the flexibility to find their personal strengths and enjoy a busy and rewarding academic and co-curricular life.

Rowing is hugely popular with the school’s own boathouse at Putney Embankment – the only women’s boathouse on the Tideway and girls excel at sports as diverse as Lacrosse, Gymnastics, Football and Cricket and Tennis – the U13 were 2019 LTA Champions.

Putney believes passionately in equality of opportunity whether through the diversity of its community, or the vast range of activities available both in and beyond the classroom. Students leave with the confidence and the resourcefulness to be intrepid in life, along with a keen understanding of who they are and how they can contribute to a wider world.
