Shrewsbury House Pre-preparatory School is an outstanding Nursery and Pre-Prep for Boys and Girls aged 3-7, offering academic excellence in a nurturing, caring environment.

Established in 1912 and situated between Claygate and Esher, Shrewsbury House Pre-Preparatory School offers a wonderful, imaginative educational experience for boys and girls from Nursery to Year 2.  Simply put, we provide an outstanding academic curriculum combined with first class pastoral care. We pride ourselves in developing the whole child; academically, socially and emotionally. We offer small classes taught by highly skilled professionals, who are renowned for “going the extra mile” and we provide specialist teaching in Sport, Music and French from Nursery onwards.

We are committed to ensuring the children achieve their goals and realise their full potential. They are encouraged to take advantage of the countless opportunities presented to them and embrace all on offer in these foundational early years. We are fortunate to have excellent facilities and spacious grounds. A fantastic all-weather playground, heated outdoor swimming pool, indoor sports hall and kitchen garden area are all on site, while our own beautiful, private playing field is just two minutes’ walk away. Forest School takes place in the wooded area there, behind the mini-pitches and pavilion, where the children are encouraged to explore and develop a love for the natural world around them.

A family feel runs through the school with each child, and their wider family, a valued part of the school community. A strong House system, an extensive activities programme including comprehensive wraparound care provision, and a thriving Parents’ Association are all integral parts of our school’s identity.

As a pre-preparatory school our aim is to fully prepare the children for the next stage of their journey at the end of Year Two.  Our boys and girls are well prepared for entrance into leading prep schools, with parents in regular dialogue with the Head, to secure expert advice and support.  Boys who would like to continue to Shrewsbury House School, our Prep School based in Surbiton, are continuously assessed for entry there, which alleviates the requirement to sit their formal assessment.

During this current lockdown period, a full, engaging programme of Remote Learning is in operation for the whole school, with Nursery open as usual.

REGISTRATION

Shrewsbury House Pre-Preparatory School is a non-selective Pre-Prep where children are eligible to join our Nursery when they turn three.  Places are allocated on a ‘first come, first served basis’ in order of registration.  We also accept registrations for entry into Reception, Year 1 and Year 2; however, this is dependent on spaces becoming available. We would invite your child to spend a morning in their current year group to assess their potential to thrive in our school environment.

You are warmly invited to contact the Registrar, Mrs Akhurst, who will be able to arrange for you to meet the Head and have a tour of the school.  Where this is not currently possible a virtual meeting may be arranged instead.

As places are limited, parents are advised to register as soon as possible by completing the Registration Form
