Russian State Ballet of Siberia - things to do Wimbledon

Cinderella

Firstly, this remarkable season opens with Cinderella. This ballet is the world’s favourite rags-to-riches fairy tale ballet set to Prokofiev’s energetic score. Whilst her mad stepmother and ill-mannered daughters prepare for the Royal Ball, but graceful Cinderella can only dream of dancing with the dashing Prince. However, later that evening, her rags become a glittering gown and she is swept magically to the Ball. From that very moment the Prince is smitten. As midnight strikes and one lost crystal slipper later, he therefore embarks on his journey to find his lost love.

“These three ballets in their latest season merge tradition with spectacular digital effects and are certain to delight audiences of all ages.”

La Fille Mal Gardee

Comic ballet La Fille Mal Gardee follows next, full of ribbons, romance and rivalry. A gentle and delightful tale of love thwarted, unrequited and found. This is one of the oldest ballets still regularly performed today. The story weaves its world of pastoral simplicity. A farm boy woos a flirty farmer’s daughter and the pair find inventive ways to avoid her mother. Complete with virtuoso pas de deux, maypole and clog dances. This ballet is a classic that is certain to send audiences home happy!

The Nutcracker

Finally, rounding off the season the company will perform the most famous of fantasy ballets. The Nutcracker begins on Christmas Eve as snowflakes fall outside. The warm glow of the open fire sends flickering shadows across the boughs of the Christmas tree and all the presents beneath. Cleverly, the ballet will sweep you away to a fairy tale world where nothing is quite as it seems. Toy dolls spring to life and the Mouse King and his mouse-army battle with The Nutcracker Prince.
