Eyebrow threading at Elys Urban Beauty
We try out a treatment at the recently launched Elys Urban Beauty in Wimbledon
It may be something to do with the fact that it’s the height of summer, but Elys Urban Beauty – the brand new beauty emporium and extension of Wimbledon department store, Elys, is heaving with hordes of shoppers when I visit one Friday afternoon.
Elys Urban Beauty is your one-stop shop which brings together innovative products from the world of cosmetics, haircare, pedicure and manicure treatments, waxing and threading, and make-up treatments, and I’ve come along to try out the threading at Eye Candy.
Eye Candy offers a walk-in brow, lash and general threading service and I meet the friendly beautician, Zarish, on hand who specialises in eyebrow threading. She explains that threading is an ancient method of hair removal originating in the Middle East, which has exploded onto the beauty salon scene in the West. Practitioners use pure, thin, twisted cotton thread which is rolled over untidy hairlines, lifting the hair at follicle level and removing entire rows of hair, creating the perfect eyebrow arch.
Zarish makes the process easy and painless and I let her know that when I usually get my eyebrows threaded, the threading is followed by pain-induced tears and an attractive red swelling around my eyes. The experience here is different, and Zarish is pulls my skin taught to make the experience as pain-free as possible. Aside from the eyebrow threading, the salon also offers semi-permanent eyelash extensions, Indiplus extensions – where individual hairs of varying lengths are attached to your own lashes, plus all sorts of threading and tinting.
The salon is a popular place and is testament to its professionalism with guests made to feel welcome and in good hands.
