What to look out for at Barnes Fair this weekend

Barnes Fair will be taking place on the common this weekend. Organised by Barnes Community Association and sponsored by Attic Conversions, the annual fair will take place across the day. Here are our top 10 events to keep your eyes peeled for

Dress up as an animal and enter the Barnes Fair fancy dress competition – open to children up to the age of 11. Meet at 10am at the Bandstand to enter

Enjoy a sing-along and a dance to rock ‘n’ roll favourites Buddy Flame & The Rockets – on the Bandstand at 1pm – there will be live music all day and Time & Leisure’s photography competition winners will be announced at 2pm.

Abracadabra magic show is a special magic show taking place on the events arena from 11.30am, and 2pm. Different local groups will be performing throughout the day including ballet, hip hop and karate outfits. There will also be Punch and Judy shows to keep the kids entertained.

Make the most of all the excellent shopping facilities, with nearly 300 stalls to explore. There will be a broad selection of stands selling bric-a-brac, clothing, jewellery and home accessories, plus find gifts and homemade artisan originals.

Kids are also invited over to the fire engine which will be coming from down the road at Richmond Fire Station, or maybe have a go on the tractor on loan from the Friends of Barnes Common.

If you’re feeling peckish, you’ll have the opportunity to enjoy a full on breakfast on a homemade smoked bacon sandwich on stand 164.

Indulge in a cocktail to kick off your Saturday or share a tasty salad or vegan bowl against a unique photo backdrop at the Mrs SW13 Catering & Events Tent, open to all throughout the day.

No local fair would be the same without a face painting stand, and Barnes Fair is no exception. Both adults and kids can take part by heading to stand 316, where Glitterlicious will be getting creative.

Don’t leave the fair without doing a good deed, there is the option to sign up to a blood stem cell register and learn more from their bright pink rowing boat.

Look out for the onsite helter skelter, and don’t miss out on the slide, plus go for a ride on the carousel or try and hook a duck, all available at the events arena.
