The countdown to the festive season has begun and soon enough streets will be glistening with enchanting Christmas lights. Here are our top trails to visit this year. By Anize Keers.

Wimbledon Festive Light Display in Cannizaro Park

This festive light display promises to transport you to a magic world of light and colour, amongst twinkling lights throughout the gorgeous grounds of Cannizaro Park. Lasting about an hour, the trail includes food, mulled wine and cider, hot chocolate and so much more. Don’t forget Santa’s Grotto too! 23 November – 17 December. TICKETS & INFO

Christmas at Kew

For a festive trip out this winter, Kew Gardens has been transformed into a magical light trail with mouthwatering food stalls. Marvel at the enchanting installations, with a hot chocolate in hand or sipping on a warming mulled wine. With multiple food and drink vendors spread across the trail, you can treat yourself to the market classics of hotdogs and burgers, Christmas specials such as Yorkshire pudding wraps and festive cheese toasties as well as try some street food such as Indian kati rolls and Caribbean flavoured chicken. There is no shortage of fun for the little ones either with a Santa’s Grotto and a ‘Rockin Robins’ disco space. 15 November – 7 January. Tickets & Info

RHS Glow 2023 – Garden Wisley

The spectacular RHS Garden Wisley is set to become an enchanting wonderland this year with dazzling illuminations. The Glasshouse will be lit up with a Christmas beach theme and the Glasshouse Lake will be set a glow in this mesmerising spectacle not to be missed this holiday season. Village Square will host different food chalets selling a range of festive treats including bratwurst and kathi rolls, churros and hot drinks. 24 November – 2 January. Tickets & Info

Christmas at Kenwood – Hampstead Heath

In partnership with English Heritage and produced by the award-winning team at Kilimanjaro Live this new Christmas trail at Kenwood is sure to be an incredible spectacle. The light trail will use visual effects and audio to deliver a beautiful immersive experience with 13 new installations with interactive elements.  Festive food and Christmassy cocktails will be on sale to make the perfect winter outing. 1 December – 1 January. Glow Wild at Wakehurst

Sussex’s festive trail will be given a whole new look this year with never-before-seen installations by leading artists. With under 4’s going free, this is the perfect Christmas outing for the little ones to have a beautiful sensory experience. 23 November – 1 January. Tickets & Info

Christmas at Blenheim Palace – Oxfordshire

[pictured top] Featuring an all-new trail and a new themed palace interior this light display is the ultimate Christmas date night or family get-together. The palace interior will be transformed into a fairy tale with the rooms bringing to life the story of Sleeping Beauty. The magical lakeside walk will make a return as will the Christmas Market in the Great Court. 17 November – 1 January. Tickets & Info

Waddesdon Manor Christmas – Buckinghamshire

This gorgeous Rothschild house and gardens will surely be a mesmerising sight this year with a gorgeous light trail, Christmas market and food village, festive displays and incredible decorations inspired by classic British tales. 22 November – 1 January. Tickets & Info

Winter Light – Southbank Centre

As the dark draws in, the Southbank Centre lights up with a series of free outdoor artworks from contemporary artists that play with light and colour, including five new works for 2023. Visitors can encounter Marinella Senatore’s large-scale decorative light sculpture We Rise by Lifting Others and hypnotic, intricate patterns in Leo Villareal’s generative digital installation Cosmic Bloom. Produced by Outland Art, the work is accompanied by tracks from international electronic music artist Kode9. All this and more can be seen at the Southbank Centre’s free winter light exhibition. 13 November – 7 January. MORE INFO
