Shed no tiers! Here’s six fun ways to spend your weekend safely while in tier 3

From Christmas trails to carols, we’ve got you covered…

We’re in tier 3 but there’s still plenty to enjoy, whether it’s a socially distanced walk or a virtual concert. If you’re out and about, do keep your distance, and follow all the guidelines…

Spot reindeer in Wimbledon

Download the app and go on a hunt through Wimbledon town centre to find the colourful reindeer. The augmented reality experience promises a virtual Winter Wonderland, while also getting you out into the fresh air. See them now, until 3rd January. The Christmas market is on this weekend, too. lovewimbledon.org/wimbledon-reindeer-trail/

Head to Hampton Court

The gardens and courtyards at Hampton Court Palace (pictured top) can stay open for visitors to enjoy in their household groups. Book in advance and follow the Christmas Fairy trail, and see live Tudor cookery demonstrations in the Tiltyard. hrp.org.uk

Join a magical Christmas concert online
World Heart Beat Music Academy, which provides music education for children and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, is hosting two live-streamed performances from its students filmed at the academy and screened direct into your living room. There will be Christmas classics, themes from the Nutcracker, jazz, and even Celtic fiddles. Saturday 19 and Sunday 20. 6.30pm.

Take a walk

We have some fabulous places to wander, right on our doorsteps. We’re heading to the riverside and ambling from Kingston to Richmond, with a stop at Ham House (book in advance) and we’re getting off the beaten path on Wimbledon Common. See more great ideas here.

Jazz night in

Join a live jazz night with Lily Dior, who will be presenting a selection of her favourite jazz and soul classics along with classic Christmas songs. Lily has sung at iconic venues such as Ronnie Scott’s, The 606 Club and the Royal Festival Hall. Joining her will be the talented Tim Lapthorn on piano. Book by 6pm. 18 Dec, 7.30pm www.chimneybellsevents.co.uk

Kingston Market but not as you know it

The children of Kingston have been busy designing mythical creatures that might inhabit the marketplace, and now you can take the family on an augmented reality tour through the town to find them. Share your pics using the hashtag #KingstonMagicalMarket and tagging @InKingstonUK. www.inkingston.co.uk/kingstonmagicalmarket
