Foxhills: A blissful state of Zen in the heart of Surrey
A new yoga cabin has just opened at Foxhills Golf and Spa hotel in Surrey so we headed out of London for a mini break to check out the new Zen yoga facilities
Just a short hop from London over the M25, you’ll discover Foxhills, a beautiful country manor hotel. Surrounded by over 400 acres of peaceful gardens, it’s the perfect place to get away from it all for some tranquil rest and relaxation. In fact there’s so much space here. They offer a huge range of health and spa facilities, three courses for golfers and a choice of restaurants and bars.
We couldn’t resist a quick dip in the heated outdoor pool before going in search of the new yoga cabin. We discovered it in a tranquil spot of the grounds, nestled amongst some pine trees. The cool modern architecture of the wood cabin with wall length windows, gave wide views of the surrounding grounds, the perfect setting to find some inner calm and nurturing.
As the chilled music guided us into complete relaxation on our mats, it was easy to zone out and forget all the stresses of work, family and home. We were guided through an hour of gentle yin yoga; an introspective practice with slow, gentle relaxing stretches, lengthening and softening muscles. Perfect for beginners, workaholics and yoga-lovers.
With the evening sun warming our room through the balcony windows, there was the distant sound of tennis being played and not much else. There is a family atmosphere at Foxhills with activities to suit all, members rub shoulders alongside guests creating a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The general manager Tej said: “We have quite a few members who head out of London to spend the weekend here and get away from the bustle of London.”
Pre-dinner drinks on the manor’s terrace were calling, exceptional gin and tonics were served, whilst we relaxed overlooking the gardens. There’s a choice of places to eat, from cafes, bistros, to afternoon tea and relaxed dining. The manor lounge with large south-facing windows offers a quintessentially English afternoon tea experience.
The Fox dining rooms offer an exceptionally good menu in a contemporary designed space. The crab bisque starter was a popular choice, served in a crisp crumb – light and delicious. Firm favourites of pork belly and rump of lamb proved to deliver, well-cooked dishes with tasty flavours and served with a keen attention to detail.
Our stay at Foxhills was sumptuous and relaxing – the perfect getaway from London. There’s plenty on offer at Foxhills, things to do for all the family, and yet ironically we most of all enjoyed doing nothing, enjoying a few restful moments from the busyness of everyday life.
