PLAY WITH WIMBLEDON’S POLKA THEATRE

Polka Theatre has a host of fun activities for kids this half term, based around Aesop’s Fables. Ideal for ages 3 to 7, there are online workshops including The Hare and The Tortoise and The Fox and the Crow.

DISCOVER SECRET GARDENS

Discover a local garden that you have never visited (within current restrictions, obvs) such as Fulham Palace, which has a fascinating history reflecting the lives of the bishops who lived there. Or head to the tranquil space of Wimbledon’s Cannizaro Park.

CREATIVE KIDS

Battersea Arts Centre and Wandsworth Council have teamed up with other local organisation to produce PlayKits for kids. Now available online, ideas include a Matisse collage and a cool art project inspired by the wildly decorated 575 Wandsworth Road.

CATCH THE TWITS

Roald Dahl’s couple we all love to hate, The Twits is being read in three parts for free thanks to the Unicorn Theatre. Perfect fun for ages 6 to 12. For children, aged 8 to 12, there is also a reading of Philip Pullman’s Grimm Tales (until 31 March).

BUDDING ARTISTS

The incredibly creative Colour Kids Club is running online workshops over half term. Aimed at ages 6+ and using items you’re likely to already have at home, the first on 17 Feb looks at the art of cake illustration, the 18 Feb workshop will have your little ones creating 3D heart decorations. £8 per workshop. £14 for two siblings. HAVE A FAMILY BAKE OFF

Take a look at some of our delicious recipes, including Eric Lanlard’s lemon drizzle cake and chocolate muffins, and Angelica Bell’s pistachio cake. Then tuck in for a fabulous family afternoon tea.

OUTDOORS FUN

The National Trust has put together a fun outdoors activity – Sounds of Nature Bingo, with children encouraged to listen for sounds such as a bird singing or a squirrel scuttling, as well as a list of 50 ideas to do outside such as setting up a snail race or creating some natural art.

ENJOY A ZOOCAM

Many zoos have set up webcams so you can watch some of their most fascinating creatures up close. Watch the meerkats and penguins at Cotswold Wildlife Park or the pandacam at Edinburgh Zoo, and live streams from London Zoo.

GET ARTY

Take part in the Great Big Art Exhibition (open until end of April). Sir Antony Gormley is encouraging everyone to tap into their creative sides and take part, with the idea that painting is therapeutic. A new theme will be chosen each fortnight, with people asked to display their work in their front windows.

On 20 Feb, head online to the Barnes Children’s Literature Festival, which will be celebrating all things pet-related! The festival will be bringing all your fave authors and illustrators, their fur buddies and a few surprises, free to your living room for a virtual party. From 10am.

The Royal Parks has some fab online fun lined up over February half-term 2021 – check out a bird feeder craft along, tai chi inspired by a snowdrop and storytelling.
